Bacterial vaginosis infection is a medical problem that occurs due to an increase in the amount of bacteria in the vagina in women. This kind of condition occurs mainly because of the harmful bacteria that are over growing in your vagina. In this situation, the discharges that happen in the female abruptly turn out to be abnormal and this is what the earliest symptom of the disease is. Ideally, this is not a sexually transmitted disease, but historically women with various lovers are more prone to this.

While the precise cause for this condition is not known, it is theorized to occur due to an discrepancy in the amounts of the different types of bacteria found in the vagina. Owing to some changes in the vagina, like a pH value change or due to brushing of some cloth materials against the walls of the anas and the vagina causing an infection.

While the disease in itself is not risky and only adds irritation to the affected individual, by not treating it in time, it opens up doors for further infectious diseases. It can also result in various other problems at the time of pregnancy and therefore, once it is diagnosed, the BV should be taken seriously and dealt with properly.

There are effective ways to deal with this condition. There are two sets of antibiotics, one set which needs to be taken orally in form of pills (like Flagyl) and the other set comes in forms of a gel (like Metrogel), which should be applied to the infected area. Both of these options in effect make use of the antibiotic Metronidizole. There are also other sets of antibiotics which also can be used to cure bacterial vaginosis with less side effects.

Once the condition is cured, a checkup should be done. This is simply because BV has a trend to reoccur occasionally, and in these cases, it should be taken care of again correctly.
